Analytical techniques.

I was inspired by our titration session today, so I thought that I would search for some interactive websites that might be appropriate.  I happened to find The Interactive Lab Primer, which seems to be a bit of a one stop shop for a number of parts of the current topic.

Each technique featured has a general introduction, interactive apparatus guide and animation, as well as video instructions.

Relevant techniques (from topic 2 and 4) include: titrations, standard solutions, thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, distillation, fractional distillation, reflux and solvent extraction.  A separate section also has an explanation and diagrams of all of the lab equipment.

The Chem Collective by Carnegie Mellon University is another great website which has a range of relevant information. Have a browse around, but there are a range of stoichiometry tutorials as well as an online stoichimometry course.  There is also a virtual lab if you wan to have a go at a titration at home….

The following flash animation by Saskatchewan Government Correspondence School is for an acid base titration.  It contains 2 examples and may be of use to you as the second example uses a diprotic acid – just like you will have in your titration assessment task.

I’m pretty sure these should keep you busy for a while!
